Uncertainty of Measurement and Decision Rule as per ISO/IEC 17025:2017

About Uncertainty of Measurement and Decision Rule as per ISO/IEC 17025:2017

Every measurement is subject to some uncertainty. A Measurement result is only complete if it is accompanied by a statement of Uncertainty in the Measurement. Measurement Uncertainties can come from the measuring instrument, from the item being measured, from the environment, from the operator, and from other sources. Such uncertainties can be estimated using statistical analysis of a set of measurements and using other kinds of information about the measurement process.

Further, as per ISO/IEC 17025:2017, when a statement of conformity to a specification or standard is provided, the laboratory shall document the Decision Rule employed, taking into account the level of risk (such as false accept and false reject and statistical assumptions) associated with the Decision Rule employed, and apply the Decision Rule taking into consideration of Uncertainty of Measurement.

Training Shall Broadly Cover

  • Concept of Measurement and Accuracy & Precision
  • Understanding of the Measurement Uncertainty & its need
  • Interpretation of Measurement Uncertainty
  • The concept and step-by-step methodology of estimation of uncertainty
  • Overall guidance on how to select appropriate decision rules
  • “Risk” associated with a decision rule
  • Decision rule in reports covering statements of conformity
  • Exercises/Workshops with real-life scenarios and case studies to make the training session interactive and more engaging
  • Comprehensive case studies
  • Dedicated ‘Question and Answer’ sessions to facilitate and provide participants with the opportunity to engage actively, seek clarification, and deepen their understanding through interactive dialogue
